Sweet Aerobics (In Aid of the Scottish Association for Mental Health)

  • Kinning Park Complex 40 Cornwall St S Glasgow, G41 United Kingdom (map)

"Wake up. Invigorate your body and mind. Feel more energized than you could possibly imagine. Sweet Aerobics is the improvised motivational dance experience; an opportunity to feel free, dance and let go of your inhibitions.

Sweet Aerobics takes place on the second Saturday following Mental Health Awareness Week 2015. The intention is to raise consciousness of mental health - a prominent but often silent issue in today’s bustling society. We are giving people the opportunity to get together in a fun, open-minded and inspiring environment.

1 in 4 people will have a mental health issues at some point in their lives - with mixed anxiety and depression being the most common. Suicide rates and self-harm statistics are utterly shocking, with the UK having one of the highest rates in Europe.

The Scottish Association for Mental Health (SAMH) recommends five ways to better your mental health: keeping in touch with friends and family, being more active, living for the moment, trying new things and giving to others ( We hope to encourage people who attend the event to do some, if not all, of these things.

Venue: The Kinning Park Complex

The Kinning Park Complex was originally part of a secondary school and run by Glasgow City Council. The building was threatened with closure in 1996 as part of wider cuts to council services. The centres users occupied the building for 55 days and nights pressing their cases for the centre to stay open. When Glasgow City Council realised neither side would budge they decided to sit down and negotiate a compromise. The community proposed they take over the management and run the costs of the centre themselves. The costs of maintaining and running the centre is largely paid for by renting out the spaces for events like this, so we will be supporting a part of Glasgow’s history and architectural heritage.

All Tribes Welcome!"
