Summer has been a busy one for Frogbeats, but we’re back in business in Glasgow and we’re stepping up our game. This year we will be hosting some of our favourite producers and live acts at venues across our beloved city and further afield. So without further adieu, let us introduce the headliner for our inaugural night at The Art School: STRAY.

Demonstrating a stunning musical ability well beyond his years, London-based producer Stray made his first mark on the drum & bass scene back in 2009. Known predominantly for a more complex sound, he has since showcased a remarkable variety of styles whilst keeping a distinctive quality to his music. A comparatively modest catalogue of releases and DJ mixes displays Stray's considered approach to his involvement in the scene. His ethos of quality over quantity apparent since his very first release on the esteemed Critical Music imprint.

He has been championed by Autonomic owners DBridge and Instra:mental, appearing on their FabricLive 50 mix, and also has releases on an array of influential labels including Med School, Exit Records and Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Records imprint. Stray is also one third of Ivy Lab, a collective formed along with Sabre and Halogenix, with the initial sessions producing the well-received tracks 'Askari', 'St.Clair' and 'Oblique'. His most recent solo works, the ‘Matchsticks EP’ and ‘Chatterbox EP’, are testaments to Stray’s growing appeal to aficionados of underground electronic dance music. Stray’s performances and productions range drastically in both tempo and atmosphere, going from fierce rollers to liquid footwork. In an interview with FactMag: “There can surely be a real degree of freedom to writing at any tempo range, but the freedom felt writing at 80-90/160-180 has perhaps only more recently been somewhat re-discovered. For me, this freedom manifests itself as a joyful blurring of lines between DnB, Jungle, Footwork and Hip Hop.” We’re excited to have booked Stray at such an intriguing point in his musical career. If you haven’t heard of him, you need to crawl out of the cave you’ve been hiding in for the last couple of years.
